Acute fulminant myoglobinuric polymyositis with picornavirus-like crystals.

چکیده
Myoglobinuria was found in an 11 month old girl suffering from fever, dyspnoea, and muscle hypotonia. Muscle biopsy showed focal degenerative necrosis of the muscle fibres. Electronmicroscopically, picornavirus-like crystals were demonstrated in the muscle fibres. These and other findings strongly suggest that she suffered from acute myositis with myoglobinuria probably caused by Coxsackie B6 virus infection. The causal relationship of viral infection (Coxsackie, influenza, or myxo-viruses) and acute or chronic polymyositis with or without myoglobinuria is discussed.

متن کاملA survival case of invasive thymoma accompanied by acute fulminant myocarditis
Thymomas are associated with a wide spectrum of autoimmune paraneoplastic diseases. Here we report the case of 31-year-old male with invasive thymoma, myasthenia gravis, polymyositis, and acute fulminant myocarditis that presented with cardiogenic shock requiring intra-aortic balloon pumping and percutaneous cardiopulmonary support. Corticosteroid therapy was effective. To our knowledge, this i...
متن کاملGlyphosate Poisoning with Acute Fulminant Hepatic Failure
Background: Glyphosate containing herbicides are widely used the world over. They are marketed as nontoxic to humans, but numerous studies have showed that these glyphosate-based herbicides (GlySH) can cause multiorgan damage.1 Recent reports of animal studies on rats have raised a doubt of liver damage after long term exposure to GlySH. Case Presentation: a young male had chronic exposure to G...
متن کاملRecurrent rhabdomyolysis and myoglobinuric acute renal failure in a patient with polymyositis.
We report on a 57-year-old woman with polymyositis who on two occasions presented with rhabdomyolysis and myoglobinuria, with resultant oliguric acute renal failures, the second episosde of which required haemodialysis. Polymyositis is a rare and gradually progressive autoimmune inflammatory disease of skeletal muscle that is characterized by muscle weakness, usually proximal and symmetric, ele...
متن کاملThe Effects of Baicalin on Myoglobinuric Acute Renal Failure in Rats
BACKGROUND Myoglobinuric acute kidney injury is a uremic syndrome that develops due to damage of skeletal muscle. Free radicals and nitric oxide play an important role in the pathogenesis of myoglobinuric acute kidney injury. Baicalin has multiple bioactivities, including antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties and is a potent free radical scavenger. AIMS To investigate th...
